About Us
We are a small hobby farm located in Belfast TN which is in southern middle TN, halfway in between Nashville TN and Huntsville AL. We've lived here in southern middle TN all of our life and love it here.
The farm name came from the name of my petsitting business which I started in 1991. When we started the farm in 2001 the name Critterhaven just naturally took over. And it fits!
We started out with goats in 2001 with a nubian brush goat and a supposed pygmy. Mee ended up being an Alpine mix rather than a pygmy! Shows what we knew about goat breeds.

I was at the local farm center when I heard of a lady who was selling out her nigerian goat herd and taking them to the local livestock auction barn. I met her in the Walmart parking lot and picked out Blaze and Snickers. Scared to death but I could see their personalities even then.

The next breed we added was Pygmy. We kept Pepper and Oreo here until we decided to go with Nigerians and mini Nubians.

Over the years we added to our herd, flying Auralia in from Idaho. We picked her up at the airport one night in her dog crate and she is now our herd queen. We love her so much and she will grow old and retire here.

Blaze has since been sold and Snickers has passed away, but we have Blaze's last daughter to carry on our non registered Nigerian line. This year 2009 she has given birth to twins. We retained her daughter Ella and needless to say she is spoiled rotten.

As for the other Nigerians we hope with the economic times such as they are, that they are here to stay. We have started to retain some of our own herd name daughters along the way, which is what the old timers in this business tell me is your eventual goal. To have your herd comprised of mostly your own herd name.
We purchased some wonderful mini Nubians from Angela Cummings in GA when she sold out her herd. We have wonderful memories of our mini Nubians, but time came and hay was short so we had to make some decisions and sacrifices, and the mini Nubians were chosen to be sold.

So I sold out my mini nubians...I want to spend my time with the Nigerians.
We've had goats, chickens, rabbits, pigeons, doves, pot bellied pigs, llamas, ducks, turkeys, guineas, geese, ferrets, guinea pigs, even an ostrich, but we will always keep the Nigerians. I love their personality, their coloring, their size, everything about them. There will never be a time when Nigerian Dwarf goats don't wander here at Critterhaven Farm!
We are not a touring facility. We are a private owned farm and work outside the farm also, so it is hard to catch us at home. However, if you wish to view some of our goats on the sale page in person for purchase, please contact us ahead of time. We hope one day to open to the public, but for now due to insurance restrictions that is not financially feasible. For other farms available for tours in TN please visit the PickTN website.
